Furthermore, the growing complexity of life in the cultural, technological, political, and economic settings of a major metropolitan city such as Hong Kong raises problems concerning ethics, values, and meaning that recent university graduates may feel acutely. More substantial training in philosophy should enhance their ability to deal with these problems. Since no M.A. degree in philosophy by coursework is offered by any university in Hong Kong, the Department of Philosophy believes it is time to meet this educational and cultural need.
