> Mission and Objectives

As Hong Kong continues to move toward a knowledge-based economy, young professionals with only an undergraduate degree are becoming increasingly aware that a second degree will enhance their competitiveness in the job market and help them secure a better career. Philosophy provides conceptual tools and rigorous training in reflective, critical reasoning pertinent to professionals in journalism, communications, education, government, law, cultural activities, and other fields. Furthermore, the growing complexity of life in the cultural, technological, political, and economic settings of a major metropolitan city such as Hong Kong raises problems concerning ethics, values, and meaning that recent university graduates may feel acutely. More substantial training in philosophy should enhance their ability to deal with these problems. Since no M.A. degree in philosophy by coursework is offered by any university in Hong Kong, the Department of Philosophy believes it is time to meet this educational and cultural need.

Philosophical training for all careers related to education, media and culture.

Higher degree to enhance competitiveness in today's job market

Insightful reflections on contemporary society and cultural issues

Learn advanced analytical and critical thinking skill
